Thanks to a new partnership between Music PEI and PEI’s Atlantic Superstores, Islanders in the music industry are getting a much needed financial boost.

In response to COVID-19 and its effects on Prince Edward Island’s music industry workers, Music PEI created the Tiny Island Concert Series. Donations collected during the live streamed shows every Thursday and Sunday on Music PEI’s Facebook page go towards the Music PEI Crisis Relief Fund.

“It’s a devastating time for all of us right now, including those in the gig economy, like musicians and those that support them. The fund aims to assist our community of people whose livelihood and well-being depend directly on gigs, concerts, and other music industry professionals” says Rob Oakie, Executive Director of Music PEI. “We greatly appreciate the way that Atlantic Superstore has stepped up to help out our Island music community.”

Atlantic Superstore has offered $3000 in gift cards to be used in conjunction with the Music PEI Crisis Relief Fund. Music PEI will match the contribution with another $3000 through the Crisis Relief Fund. The gift cards will be distributed to music industry professionals on PEI who are experiencing financial hardship, especially those who haven’t been eligible for performance-based relief funds, including live and studio sound technicians, session musicians, and adjacent music industry professionals. Go to musicpei.com for submission details.

“As a company we have always strived to help Canadians ‘Live Life Well,'” says Carrie Kyle, Manager of West Royalty Atlantic Superstore. “During the pandemic, it was more apparent to me than ever, that living life well reached far beyond just food. Islanders have always been passionate about two things: a quality home cooked meal and music. I was grateful that Music PEI reached out to us and gave us the opportunity to help support island artists.”

Music PEI is the music industry association for Prince Edward Island with a mandate to assist artists and music industry professionals to develop sustainable careers.

Join us Thursday and Sunday at 8pm for the Tiny Island Concert series via the Music PEI Facebook page.
