Music PEI Artist Exchange and Showcase PEI

It’s September and for the 10th year in a row Music PEI will bring delegates from across the globe to participate in PEI’s largest annual music business development conference, Showcase PEI. In 2008 the event started out small with 14 delegates and 14 artists. This year Music PEI will recruit up to 50 delegates from around the world and showcase up to 22 of PEI’s top artists. The event has helped to create over $2,000,000 in work for PEI artists since inception.

Music PEI has coordinated showcases at a variety of venues showcasing some of our great music venues across the province including Harmony House, The Trailside Music Café, Florence Simmons Performance Hall and St. Mary’s Church, home of the Indian River Music Festival. These showcases allow our artists to present their music to festival buyers, promoters, agents and venue programmers in private showcases in an effort to create new business opportunities.

Also part of Showcase PEI again this year is the Artist Exchange Program in partnership with British Underground, the music industry association of England and ROSA, the association from Denmark. The program pairs an artist from PEI together with an artist from those countries. The artists co-write for 2 days, go on a tour of the Maritimes and perform at Showcase PEI. This is a reciprocal program with our artists going to England and Denmark with the same opportunities.

This year PEI’s Dylan Menzie will partner with UK artist Jake Morley and Island artist Nick Doneff will be paired with Denmark’s Ida Wenøe. Nick and Ida will have a public performance on PEI at the Trailside Music Café Thursday, September 14th. Dylan and Jake will perform at the Watermark Theatre Sunday, September 24th. They will each perform their own music and also present their collaborations in these unique shows. In addition, they will play shows in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. More details can be found on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/musicpei.

Dylan will travel to the UK in May of 2018 and showcase at one of the world’s largest music conferences, The Great Escape and Nick will participate in Denmark’s Spot Festival, also in May of 2018.

Showcase PEI and The Artist Exchange Program are supported with investment by Innovation PEI, ACOA, and FACTOR (with the support of The Government of Canada and Canada’s Private Radio Broadcasters).
