On Saturday night, sixteen nominees for the 2009 Music PEI Awards played to a sold out house at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in an awards gala that saw a total of 22 awards handed out.

This year, Meaghan Blanchard swept the 2009 Ocean 100/K-Rock 105.5 Music PEI Awards Gala winning a total of 4 awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year and Folk Recording of the Year.

John Connolly walked away with 3 awards for his self-titled release. The Grass Mountain Hobos, relative newcomers to the Island music scene have capped off a busy year by taking home an impressive 3 Music PEI awards including Bluegrass/Country Recording of the Year.

The evening wasn’t without surprises when there was not 1 but 2 ties for awards in the Alternative and Pop Recording of the Year categories.
