Music P.E.I. announces 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient
When the words lifetime achievement come together, it may make you think about a person who has made a significant contribution, such as a cornerstone figure in developing and reaching community objectives – someone who has dedicated his or her life to a particular career and has worked tirelessly in that regard or perhaps someone who has blazed a trail for others while also reaching new heights of personal success.
Someone honoured with a lifetime achievement award is most often paralleled with an age bracket noted as senior years.
How often is a lifetime achievement award given to someone in the age bracket of their 40s?
In the music industry, artists receive honours at any age, like gold and platinum awards representing numbers of records sold. This achievement in Canada relates to sales figures of 50,000 albums for gold status and 100,000 for platinum.
Either level is very significant, and Music P.E.I.?s 2006 lifetime achievement recipient has mastered both.
Are you wondering if the Lifetime Achievement Award is a new award to Music P.E.I.?
The answer is no; however this award, voted on by the board of directors, has previously been announced as a surprise during the awards show.
In 2005, the recipient was Urban Carmichael, a well-known entertainer who entwined both music and wit into his stage presence. Other winners of this award have included Eric MacEwen and the Chaisson brothers to name but a few.
In 2006, the Music P.E.I. Lifetime Achievement Award winner is the most commercially successful rock ?n? roll band to emerge from P.E.I. – Haywire.
David Rashed, Paul MacAusland, Ronnie Switzer, Marvin Birt and Sean Kilbride are the members of Haywire and are undoubtedly the most recognized names in the Island?s rock ?n? roll history.
Their success in the early 1980s continued to significant proportions into the ?90s -that?s longevity in the music industry – where one-hit wonders are commonplace.
The band invested prize money won at the Q104 Battle of the Bands into its first five-song EP (a five-song vinyl ?record?) and Bad, Bad Boys led them to acclaimed success with Dance Desire, Black and Blue, Thinkin? About the Years and many other hits.
So don?t get caught Standing in Line without a ticket to both hear this band during the awards show and applaud as they receive their Lifetime Achievement Award on Nov. 10.
