The Music PEI team has been hard at work gearing up for Music PEI Week, which takes place the first week of March. At this point in time, the organizers are hoping to go ahead with live, in-person events that comply with all CPHO regulations.

There will be lots of live music to check out starting mid-week on Wednesday, March 2nd with a kick-off party at Baba’s Lounge Open Mic Night, hosted by KINLEY. The kick-off party will be a great opportunity to get together in a casual and relaxed space, all the while enjoying some tunes from local musicians of all calibres.

Thursday, March 3rd features returning favorite, the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Concert with songs and stories by nominees Andrew Waite, Dylan Menzie, Dennis Ellsworth, Logan Richard, and Nathan Wiley. Hosted by Matt Rainnie of CBC Radio.

Two stellar shows are happening on Friday, March 4th; Diggin Deep Roots at the Guild, a celebration of Traditional and Modern Roots, including nominees Alicia Toner, Jenna-Marie Gallant, Gordie MacKeeman, Shane Pendergast, and Scott MacKay. Also on Friday at the Trailside is the Red Dirt Rock show, sponsored by Most Wanted Pawn. The lineup features high-energy bands to rev up your weekend with performances by Arsenal Mills, Rick Sparkes + The Enablers, Nathan Wiley, and Negative J.

Moving into the weekend, on Saturday, March 5th there’s plenty of talent to take in as well with two more shows. Sounds for the Soul at the Guild will be an evening of jams and vibes straight from the hearts of Brandon Howard Roy, Joce Reyome, Noah Malcolm, and Kierrah. Later that night at the Trailside is the Block Party, a showcase of PEIs Hip-Hop, Rap, and Electronic scene with performances by nominees Hailey MacIssac, X-Plycit, BT FLW, Lizleo, and Vince the Messenger.

Sunday, March 6th marks the last day of the festival, the Awards Party takes place in the afternoon where Music PEI will be handing out 27 awards. The Festival Finale concert presented by Buchanan Technologies will wrap up the week at Florence Simmons Performance Hall. It’s a stacked lineup that features some of the top award nominees of 2022 with performances by Alicia Toner, Andrew Waite, Dylan Menzie, Joce Reyome, and Logan Richard.

“In this confusing time of loss and isolation, what I’m looking forward to most is coming together with this incredible community and celebrating.” Said Alicia Toner, top nominee for the 2022 Music PEI awards “Music PEI Week is just what we need right now; to gather, to share stories and songs as we celebrate this vibrant community of artists and our collective love of music and one another.”

Congratulations to all nominees, and to those artists who may not have been recognized this year – we see you, your work, and your contribution.
