2022 Music PEI Award Nominees

Published On: December 9th, 2021Categories: News0 Comments

Music PEI Week, the largest annual celebration of Prince Edward Islands music community, combining concerts and an industry awards presentation, takes place from March 2nd to March 6th, 2022. Your favourite signature Music PEI Week events are back again this year, such as the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year Concert and the Festival Finale Concert featuring the top nominees of 2022. The whole week is jam-packed with top-shelf Island talent that will be showcased at six concerts throughout the festival.

The juries have reviewed all the submissions and the 2022 Music PEI Award nominees have been confirmed. Alicia Toner stands out this year with 7 nominations, her sophomore album Joan is nominated for Album of the Year, Solo Recording of the Year, and Contemporary Roots Recording of the Year, and the albums opening track, Have it All, is nominated for Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year; Toners other nominations, Digital Achievement of the Year and Entertainer of the Year, solidify her impact on PEIs music scene over the past year.

The other top nominees are a mix of scene staples like Andrew Waite (6), Dylan Menzie (5), and Logan Richard (4); fresh new artists like Joce Reyome (4) and Brandon Howard Roy (4); as well as seasoned creator, Dennis Ellsworth (4). Sarah Hagens mastery of classical piano and comedy has also landed her as a top nominee again this year with four nominations.

Genre award winners and Entertainer of the Year are determined by the Music PEI membership and a public fan vote, respectively. Voting for these categories can be done through the new awards platform developed this year for Music PEI by Wavelength Media. Public voting for these categories will open on December 14th, members will be able to vote by logging into their Music PEI accounts where they will find a special link to the voting platform. The public will be able to vote for Entertainer of the Year by logging into the awards platform by either using their personal Facebook or Google accounts.
