Nationally-acclaimed singer and actress Catherine McKinnon, the first artist to win two JUNO Awards (née RPM Awards), and a recipient of the Dr. Helen Creighton Life Time Achievement Award at the 2012 ECMAs, is one of the talented artists who will be donating her time and talent to Sing with Heart. Catherine was a star of the popular TV show, Singalong Jubilee and became known for her signature rendition of Farewell to Nova Scotia. Her debut album, Voice of An Angel, became the very first album by a Canadian recording artist to sell over 100,000 copies. Catherine will be performing from noon to 1 p.m. on the main level of the Confederation Court Mall.

“We are honoured to have someone of Catherine’s musical stature participate in this unique fundraising initiative that will benefit both the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Music PEI,” says Rob Oakie, Executive Director of Music PEI. “Some of our more established artists, as well as a variety of emerging artists, have embraced this opportunity to donate their talents to this worthwhile event.”

Sing with Heart will feature Island artists such as Dennis Ellsworth, a multiple Music PEI award winner, whose recording, Dusk Dreams, was named album of the year. Dennis also took home honours for the Roots Contemporary Recording of the Year, the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year and recently returned from a successful tour of England. Other artists include, Chris Dalziel, Katie McGarry, Aaron Crane and Todd MacLean from English Words, Josh Carter from Coyote and Jordan Cameron and many more.

“The Heart and Stroke Foundation is very pleased to partner with Music PEI to provide a variety of free musical performances at various locations in downtown Charlottetown,” says Charlotte Comrie, CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation in PEI. “We encourage everyone to enjoy these performances over their lunch hour on Tuesday, August 13.”

Many of the artists who will be performing will be selling their CDs and donating a portion of the sales to the Sing with Heart initiative, which will take place at various indoor and outdoor locations in downtown Charlottetown. Proceeds from the CD sales and any donations received will be shared equally between Music PEI and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s mission is to prevent disease, save lives and promote recovery. A volunteer-based health charity, we strive to improve the health of every Canadian family, every day. ‘Healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. Together we will make it happen’.
