Music PEI Elects Executive

Music PEI announced its 2011-2012 Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting in in May and elected its executive during a Board meeting earlier this week.

The executive is as follows:

Jim Hornby – President
Heather MacAulay – Vice President
Gordon Belsher – Treasurer
Sue Urquhart – Secretary

“Our Board of Directors represent a wide variety of backgrounds including arts administration, law, event promotion, venue operation, performance, songwriting, and artist management,” said MPEI Executive Director Rob Oakie. “These volunteers will be instrumental in our efforts to continue building PEI’s music industry.”

Recently appointed to the Board of Directors is Michelle Morrison who fills the spot vacated by Kate Gracey-Stewart who recently stepped down from the Board of Directors to accept a staff position at Music PEI as the Program & Operations Manager.

Michelle’s background includes a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Psychology, as well as a Bachelor degree in Social Work. She is serving her second term as Board member of the Rape and Sexual Assault Centre. She, and her husband Ian Forgeron, are the proud owners of an independent record store ‘Back Alley Music’, where the emphasis is on supporting local musicians, and fostering a love of music in the community.

Music PEI is a non-profit member services organization devoted to advancing careers of Island musicians. Music PEI is actively seeking ways to promote, foster and develop artists and the music industry on PEI. The Association acts as an advocate for the Island music industry and a representative at the national table. Music PEI has a past and present membership of over 1000 that includes musicians, songwriters, music industry professionals, corporate partners, and music lovers.
