Charlottetown, PE – Saturday night, in front a sold out house at the 9th Annual Music PEI Awards Gala, Catherine MacLellan walked away with four awards including top honours for Songwriter of the Year. Other multiple award winners for the evening included Entertainer of the Year Grass Mountain Hobos, Group of the Year Tim Chaisson & Morning Fold and New Artist of the Year Haunted Hearts.

The 9th Annual Music PEI Awards Gala kept the packed theatre on the edge of their seats from the moment the Grass Mountain Hobos kicked off the night with their own foot stompin’ brand of bluegrass, swing and honky tonk until the time the curtain fell on Island sweetheart Catherine MacLellan who had gathered a group of musical friends and fellow nominees to finish up the night. Other musical highlights of the evening included Chas Guay’s performance of New Bartender and Tim Chaisson & Morning Fold being joined on stage by Kinley Dowling (formerly of hey rosetta!) and Matthieu Hughes for a performance of Broken Hearted Beat.

A number of awards were handed out at events throughout the week during 2010 Music PEI Week, but regardless of where the award was handed out all nominees and winners were recognized from the stage by the evening’s hosts Fraser McCallum and Lennie MacPherson. In total 25 awards were handed out by Music PEI this year at an awards gala that featured 13 performances by nominated musicians.
