Canada Day Week. Great Week for Island artists!!

Canada Day 2009 will feature music everywhere and Island artists are taking centre stage. The celebrations kick off on July 1st at the waterfront in Charlottetown and will feature an all Island line-up of Music PEI members. JJ Chaisson, Colette Cheverie, Meaghan Blanchard, John Connolly, Battery Point, Vishten and the Grass Mountain Hobos will be helping to celebrate Canada.

Two Hours Traffic and Paper Lions will both be featured on the Festival of Lights Concert Series stage July 3rd & 4th with headliners Simple Plan and Daughtry.
There will be performances from tip to tip on the Island over the Canada Day celebrations.

Stanfest in Canso will set a record this year with 6 Island artists. July 3rd , 4th & 5th will see Vishten, Nudie & the Turks, Saddle River String Band, Teresa Doyle, Joey Kitson and the Grass Mountain Hobos entertaining the fans at the annual tribute to Stan Rogers in Nova Scotia.

The 2009 ECMA Bluegrass Album of the year award winners Grass Mountain Hobos are in the midst of a very hectic summer with over 7 festival in July alone. They will celebrate the launching of their new CD “ZOOT” July 1st at Hunter’s Ale House.

The traditional Acadian folk super group Vishten also have an extremely busy summer with performances scheduled at Stanfest, Winnipeg, Harrison (BC), Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa Folk Festivals as well as the Kansas City Irish Festival and in Milwaukee at the largest Irish Festival in the world. That is on top of performances in between and coming off tours of Europe and Scotland!

Many of the other Music PEI members will have busy summers playing at home and across Canada including the Canada Games celebrations in August. Music PEI has partnered with Canada Games 2009 to create a drop card with free music for the VIP delegates attending the games here on PEI.
