The Music PEI Music Awards Show is an annual celebration of Island Music from East to West, with up to 22 Industry awards given to those who have made their mark on the Island in 2008–2009.
Our Gala celebrates the diversity of music on Prince Edward Island and features up to a dozen or more Island performers in genres including everything from Alternative, Country, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Rock n' Roll, Pop, and more. Each year new rising stars are discovered and established artists shine. It is truly a diverse range of musical styles and great performances. Performers for the Gala Show are selected by the Awards Show Committee from the list of nominees.
This year's Gala show will be held Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown and will once again celebrate musical excellence and achievements during the past year featuring Island artists. The following section outlines the award categories for Music PEI Music Awards 2009 and the nomination process for each. Please review this section and the respective forms for each award.
Music PEI may present awards in several categories. Winners are chosen by the combined votes of all eligible members of Music PEI. Winners in industry categories are also presented each year.
Each category is included in the current year's voting process once a minimum of three (3) submissions has been received by Music PEI. The submissions are then sent to committees of jurors with a demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the overall industry or individual categories. The committees forward their top eight (8) suggestions in each category to the Music PEI accounting firm and the top five (5) selections in each category become the nominees.
Artists/groups may submit for any number of General Categories, and/or one (1) Genre Specific Category for each recording. Furthermore, artists/groups may submit for any number of seven (7) Special Categories in addition to General and/or Genre Specific Categories. If a recording falls within the eligibility period for two voting years, it may be submitted both years, however the same rules apply and a recording can only be submitted for nomination in one Genre Specific Category. A recording cannot be nominated twice in the same category.
Where there are fewer than the minimum required submissions, they will be automatically eligible in the same category for the following year. Each submission can be carried over only once.
The nominees in each category are announced December 21st. Voting polls will open immediately and close January 13th. All voting will take place on-line.
