Lawrence Maxwell
Upon leaving the Navy in 2014, Lawrence Maxwell moved back home to Prince Edward Island to see if the world would slow down—it didn’t. While stationed at CFB Halifax, he purchased an acoustic guitar, but it wasn’t until his return home that he began making sense of the experiences. He spent many days and nights walking through the woods, getting in tune with nature’s rhythm and gathering songs. Taking his collection of stories and insights from a life at sea, Lawrence paired them with the sounds of nature as his inspiration for writing.

Lawrence originally began performing with long-time friend, Brandon Hood in the duo, “Max & Brandon”. Their first performance was to a room of 700 people in 2015 as part of a benefit for Lawrence’s uncle, Frank. The spark grew into a healthy flame and the duo began working the bar scene in Charlottetown, playing with local bands such as: Big Tilda and Stabbing Joy, as well as touring bands such as: Pick Brothers Band, and Ray Gun Cowboys. A singing competition in 2016 led the boys to a gig at the largest music festival in Atlantic Canada, The Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

Lawrence Maxwell will tell it to you like it’s folk and sing it to you like it’s country. Known for blending introspection and fiction, he paints scenes of nature and the human experience. Just when you begin to sink into the gritty vocals, they fade into sweet melodies, and you will forget about ever trying to define the elusive genre. Inspired by the rivers and oceans, the trees and the animals, the poets and the working class, Lawrence Maxwell tells the tales of life, outside and within.
