Carlie Howell is a performer and composer based in Iris, Epekโwitk. An inspired poet with a diverse musical vocabulary, Howell's songwriting is both intimate and expansive, nostalgic and now.
They perform their original songs solo, and with folk band Carlie Howell and The DeHarms, Brazilian-Canadian trio Laranjeiras, queer country duo The County Line Romance, and with their chamber folk ensemble The Electric Storm Collective.
A strong musical voice across genres, Carlie has composed and arranged for The Afiara String Quartet, the Continuum Contemporary Music Ensemble, Baque De Bamba, Os Tropies, and the Queer Songbook Youth Orchestra.
As a bassist, they can be heard locally, nationally and internationally with such performers as Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Jenn Grant, Catherine MacClellan, Tanya Davis, and more.
Their work has been supported by the Toronto, Ontario, and Canada Councils, PEI Arts, The Canadian League of Composers, The Banff Centre for the Arts and MusicPEI.
