Ninth Annual Music PEI Week & Awards Gala presented by Molson Canadian

During the week of January 20th to January 23rd, 2010, Music PEI will host its 9th Annual Music Week and Awards Gala. This year Music PEI is pleased to announce that Molson Canadian has taken on the role of title sponsor for the event. Building upon last year’s success, Music Week will be replete with showcases, workshops and an art show, culminating with the Awards Gala on Saturday, January 23rd. Art for Music will begin on January 15th at The Guild and run through January 30th, featuring work by local music photographers, graphic designers and artists. Admission to the exhibition is free.

MBS Radio presents Music Mosaic
The music kicks off on Wednesday, January 20th at The Mack with a very special show entitled Music Mosaic presented by MBS Radio. This concert will feature multicultural performances from Vishten, Native Gumbo, Scott Parsons, Mario Robichaud and Meaghan Blanchard. The following awards will be presented: Francophone Artist of the Year, Jazz Recording of the Year, Urban Recording of the Year, Venue of the Year, Studio of the Year, and Roots Traditional Solo, Duo or Group Recording of the Year.

The music starts at 8:00pm and tickets can be purchased up at the Confederation Centre box office for $15.00.

Music Mosaic is presented by MBS Radio and Music PEI in partnership with Carrefour de l’Îsle-Saint-Jean and Fédération Culturelle de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard.

The Guardian presents the Songwriters Association of Canada Songs & Stories (A Bluebird North Concert Series Event)
The following night, Thursday, January 21st will see LeE HARVeY OsMOND (Tom Wilson) hosting Songs & Stories presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada and sponsored by The Guardian at The Mack at 8:00pm. This intimate show features performances from 2010 Music PEI nominees for Songwriter of the Year including Catherine MacLellan, Dennis Ellsworth, Liam Corcoran & Alec O’Hanley, Teresa Doyle, Tim Chaisson and the 2009 Music PEI Songwriter of the Year Meaghan Blanchard. The following awards will be presented: Songwriter of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Folk Recording of the Year, Educator of the Year, Event of the Year, and Visual Artist of the Year.

Tickets are available at the Confederation Centre box office for $20.00.

Friday Night Live! presented by OLS
On Friday, January 22nd, Music PEI and OLS will be partnering with seven local venues to present Friday Night Live!, a night of musical showcases throughout Charlottetown. A nominal cover charge of $5.00 will apply for admission to a showcase. Please see the schedule of events for information on Showcases.

2010 Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Molson Canadian
Music Week wraps up on Saturday, January 23rd when the 2010 Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Molson Canadian takes the main stage at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Homburg Theatre, featuring performances from this year’s nominees and hosted by Fraser McCallum & Lennie MacPherson.

Tickets are available at the Confederation Centre box office for $20.00. A post-Gala Reception will be held at the Rodd Charlottetown immediately following the Awards show.

Workshops
There are seven workshops scheduled for the 2010 Music PEI Week including a Songwriters workshop hosted by LeE HARVeY OsMOND (Tom Wilson), a keynote address by Grant Lawrence (CBC Radio 3), a media panel (featuring Grant Lawrence - CBC Radio 3, Andrew King - Canadian Musician, Will Strickland - UMAC, and Kimberly Sinclair - Spin Count. Will Strickland from the Urban Music Association of Canada will present “Plan Your Work So You Can Work Your Plan” alongside informational seminars on FACTOR, SOCAN and Music PEI Funding Programs.
